After World War II Wendell Rudolph Ringheim came home and needed a job. He ended up finding work as a rep for Ingersoll Rand selling commercial door hardware. After a few years on his own he finally hired some help and formally started the W. R. Ringheim Company, a rep agency that sold Von Duprin and lCN commercial door hardware. The rep agency decided who would buy direct from the factory and who would not. They functioned as the sales arm for the factory.
Certain products had long lead times and were hard to get, so Wendell started to inventory those items at W. R. Ringheim company and act as a wholesale warehouse location. Eventually Ingersoll rand wanted more control and decided to buy the rep agency from Wendell. At that point W. R. Ringheim became a true wholesale distribution business.
